Virtual Church Going Viral

It is very satisfying seeing the rise in use of the immersive Matterport virtual tour we created for St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Portlaoise.
The church has seen a massive increase in people using the 3D immersive tour to virtually visit the interiors of the buildings closed by #COVID19.
Using the tour, which features on the parish website, visitors can wander around the church, #virtually visiting the shrines, Stations of The Cross, side chapels, and other parts of the church.
Links within the tour lead to the readings for the day, a link to the live-streamed Mass, the parish newsletter and contact information for the parish team.
When the tours were commissioned, we had no idea that virtually visiting the churches would become the only option for parishioners because of the #Coronavirus.
The parish also commissioned a tour of their Parish Centre, which in happier times allowed people to view the facilities available and the spaces for hire.
The parish team who commissioned the tours are to be congratulated for their forward-thinking, which has paid off for the parishioners in these difficult times.
